Thumbnails won't generate

I've changed the size of thumbnails and to regenerate I've deleted the old thumbnail images from the server. Gone back to phoca gallery and selected the images, then click on 'recreate thumbnails'. It says the thumbnails regnerated, but nothing happens. the images in the backend are replaced with icons that say "Enlarge Image"

Thoughts?

did you set: Enable Thumbnails Generation=Yes in Phoca Gallery Options?

ok, that was weird. Earlier I noticed it wasn't generating thumbnails and so checked that setting. It was on "No", so i changed it to "yes" and the component generated some images, but then wouldn't generate some others. Never thought to check that setting again, but that was the problem again. Somehow it had reverted to "no" again. I just generated the thumbnails, so I should be all set. But if it keep changing to "no" I will tell you.
