I've just recently installed Phoca Gallery,.. I have the plugin and the main program good to go from what I could tell. Everything seemed to install with no hick-ups however I upload images and then I can't access them what so ever. Also I read something about the installation might have to be done via FTP for some as their servers don't have enough memory to handle the zip install I guess. They say something about see'n the Gallery Tables,.. if it's installed correctly and if not you see nothing.. I see nothing on any pages and I went into the plugin's and made sure they are active. I have the slider plugin and the gallery plugin. Below is the link to the actual info...

I'm using the latest version of Joomla that's 3.8 not 3.5 or 3.6.. would that make the difference? Im using 4.3.6 Phoca Gallery

The guide you have linked is a Joomla! v1.5 guide. Don't use it with Joomla! v3.x.xAlso I read something about the installation might have to be done via FTP

Re: Phoca Gallery image access
I made a mistake and didn't have the plug in installed and something else. Another error I had on something different was an underscore instead of a hyphen... I'm overworked and it's showing in my reading skills lol... where's the forum for fixing that lmao.
Thanks for you suggestions Benno - and yea I did link the wrong one as you pointed out. I have the right stuff and it's working great! Many thanks to the Open Source community! I love you all! Where were you all when I was 13 writing basic code from PC magazine.. the dang Data confused me and I couldn't figure that out in 1986... back then there was only modems and there was one way to use a modem to connect to a gaming computer system... the names Compuserve if memory serves me... I never got a modem for my Tandy 1000 which is right next to me still as I'm going to finish that dang basic program I started!
Miles of Smiles!
