Download logging not working

I have a problem with the Download statistics. I've moved some documents to external sites to download, but then the download is only logged when a superuser downloads the file. A registered user is not logged when downloading an external file, only when he downloads an internal document.
I'm working with Joomla 3.0 and the latest version, 3.0.5. Thanks for your help.

Hi, if there is a link - direct link to external file, the statistics cannot be inserted - if the link is not direct link, then yes, as first the server will write the statistics and then it redirects to the external server - but in the first case, there is no redirect - clicking on the link means, you go directly to the file in external server.

Thanks. That was indeed the problem. I've set the 'direct download' to 'no' and now I have statistics. The reason that I set it to yes, was to open the file in a new tab, but I see that I can't have both.
