is it possible to use a password for a download?

Hi, yes, in two forms:
1) as standard login - you just type login and password to download the file
2) or per unique download link - which includes token (token is like password)

Hi,
1) there is standard login like on your whole Joomla! page - if you set that some file will be protected, clicking on it will display standard Joomla! login.
2) the token url you can find in file edit (since Joomla! 3) so if you copy this url, you can access the file e.g. in case such will be not acccessible for public.
