Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hmm, then this is no more question on Phoca Download because direct link in fact does not have anything with Phoca Download - the direct link is browser - server connection - so I think the primary problem will be IE (question on IE developers should be done) and maybe some server limit (try to ask webhosting operator, maybe there is some limit
)

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
With direct link nothing changes about the way the file is downloaded. All other ways work (direct link with Joomla editor) so it can't be a problem of IE or the server because then it wouldn't work with direct link with Joomla editor. But then it works flawless. ONLY with Phoca Download it won't. There's no limit on the webhosting and they say there's nothing wrong with the server but that your extension is the problem.

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hi, really no idea what can be wrong there, as written in post above, if you enable direct link, this in fact means: don't use Phoca Download, but download the file directly from the server. In this case, the only one what Phoca Download does is creating the direct link to the file on your server and there is only one direct link (it does not matter if it is in editor, or somewhere else) - then the use gets the link directly to the file on your server and the download goes from server to browser - when downloading, Phoca Download is not active so it cannot influence the download anyway
Direct link means, Phoca Download is not active while downloading. Anyway Phoca Download does not influence the download in both cases even direct link or not. But when not direct link, Phoca Download creates header (response). When direct link, Phoca Download does not do nothing - clicking on the link, you go directly to the file on your serve and the Phoca Download is not activated - it is like it is not installed on the system.

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hi Jan,
I understand what you are saying (I did the first time) but don't you think it is weird that if I make the link myself with the Joomla editor, it is working and if I make it with Phoca Download it doesn't. Doesn't that mean there must be a difference between how Joomla creates the link and how Phoca Download makes it? Another thing I've noticed today: If I click the link, IE shows the yellow bar to download underneath the screen. With the Joomla link it also shows the size of the file, with Phoca Download it doesn't. So there is really a difference between the two. Doesn't matter if direct link is enabled or not. It almost looks like the direct link option doesn't work.
Sorry for bothering you so much...

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hi, just compare the links - one created in editor and second created in Phoca Download, in fact they cannot be different as there is no other way to access file directly on the server.
if the file is located, e.g. in:
phocadownload/file/file.zip
then the direct link is: www . yoursite . com/phocadownload/file/file.zip
And it does not exist any other direct path to the file. In fact we are not speaking about link but about the direct path to the file.
so if the file is located here:
phocadownload/file/file.zip
you cannot directly access it (e.g. per url bar) only with one path/link:
www . yoursite . com/phocadownload/file/file.zip
if you change it e.g. to:
www . yoursite . com/phocadownload/file2/file.zip then the file cannot be accessed of course - we are accessing the file like you access it in your file manager on your PC - you got through folders to the file. It does not matter if you set it in editor, in Phoca Download or URL bar, the location/path/link is only one.
If you file.zip is located in file folder then you cannot find it in other folder only in folder "file".
It does not matter which program you will use, if you access the file directly, it is alway and everwhere the same and in fact the program has nothing to do with the path (except it displays it for you)
Just let me know the url/path/link created in Phoca Download and in editor - they sould be the same.

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hi Jan,
I found out why it is not working. I have my files outside the public_html folder because they are only for registered users. With the smaller files <2GB thats no problem and they download normally in IE. With larger files >2GB it is a problem and they won't download in IE. Direct link doesn't work with folders outside public_html as you describe on your website.
Next problem: I can't put the files in a folder inside public_html because then they are accessible for everyone. Is there another way to protect them besides putting them outside public_html?

Hi, yes, you cannot access the files directly behind the public_html. When the files are not behind public_html, then:
- you can e.g. add them to some folder which name includes token: e.g. folder2154sd1f5s5df41s5d1fs so nobody can know such folder (but of course if somebody will know the direct link, then he/she can share it
- or somehow protect the accessing the files in folder by htaccess - but I think, in such case the direct link cannot be used as in fact you want to protect the files against direct access

Re: Large files (>2GB) can not be downloaded with IE
Hi Jan,
I've already tried the second option, but that doesn't work because like you said it will block direct download. The first option is something to think about. Maybe I can use that. Thanks for the suggesting.
About the wrong filesize. I've tried several other download extensions to see how they do it. With one (JDownload) I was able to edit the file size that the program detected. So with the large files I could change the wrong size. Maybe an option for Phoca Download?

Hi, yes, thank you for the info (chaning the size manually), I have added it to feature request list.
Thank you, Jan
