Using a template joomla version 3.4.1
I installed the theme tre_v1.0.4
from my administration panel I go on and I select item phocagallery compenent
I go after the entry and themes I select the theme to install

gives me the following error: You could not find the setup file XML Joomla

How can I fix?

Phoca Gallery Tre v1.0.4 is a Template not a Theme. Templates should be installed with the normal 'Joomla! Extensions' install routine.

Sorry, I don't understand.
As I explained above:
Phoca Gallery Tre v1.0.4 is a Joomla! v3.x Template not a Theme. So, if you want install Phoca Gallery Tre v1.0.4 Template, use the Joomla! installation routine 'Extension Manager'.

Themes are a kind of 'Styles' for Phoca Gallery. But as I also wrote above:

There is no Phoca Gallery v4 Theme available till now.

Therefore you will receive an error message, if you try to install a Phoca Gallery Theme with the Phoca Gallery 'Themes' installation routine. (It's the wrong version)

It's the 'Masonry Effect'.
To use this effect you need to enable it in Phoca Gallery 'Options' and you need to enable creat 'Additional Thumbnails' in Phoca Gallery 'Options':
backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Control Panel --> Options --> Phoca Gallery Options --> Category View --> Category View Settings --> Different Thumbnail Height=Yes (Masonry Effect)
backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Control Panel --> Options --> Phoca Gallery Options --> Thumbnails --> Additional Thumbnails=(e.g.)Medium and small thumbnails
Save & Close
Then you go to: backend --> Components --> Phoca Gallery --> Images
and create the missing 'Additional Thumbnails'
