Phoca PDF in Joomla 3.2.1 not working

Post by dfnsdavid »

Hi Phoca gurus,
Have been on this issue of exporting / converting my joomla article to pdf for about one week.
I am using Shaper Helix 2 Framework as my template
I installed the phoca pdf component, plugin and system plugin. Enabled all of them, but nothing seems to be going on with the articles the only icons I see are the Joomla default print and email icon, and they are working well.
I have read different forum post from different website including this forum, applying all the methods I see but none of it is working for my website.
I even thought maybe a module, component, or plugin is affecting Phoca PDF (which I check by disabling all installed mod, com, plg and still not working).
PLEASE HELP, MY CLIENT IS NOT GETTING PATIENT ANYMORE :( :( :( :(
PHOCA PDF GURUS PLS HELP

Hi,

I'm not a PDF Guru - keep patient please -

In the meantime make an update to Joomla 3.4.3 (3.4.1/.2 was also an important security fix).

regards, Christine

Hi,
Seems like nobody have an answer to my question
That's not true. To answer your question more informations are needed.
Did you do the upgrade Christine has mentioned?
In the meantime make an update to Joomla 3.4.3 (3.4.1/.2 was also an important security fix).
Which versions of Phoca PDF Component & which versions of the plugins do you use?
Did you check this issue with a Joomla! standard template (e.g. Protostar) for testing?

Kind regards,
Benno

Thanks for your response
I tried upgrading but don't want to go through the stress now because am developing the website on my PC using XAMPP server and I have a proxy network.
So my plan is to fix this pdf issue the upload to a web host then update to Joomla 3.4.3.

I installed Phoca PDF Component and plugin version 3.0.2

I just checked the default template (Protostar) its still not displaying

Hi, if I read the post correctly, it seems like the PDF feature was not tested yet as the icon is not displayed.

So to test or run PDF feature, you need to have icon (PDF) to run the feature.

If standard article is used, then:
- the icon can be displayed with system plugin - system plugin tries to find the place in article and tries to set the icon there (Joomla! 3.3)
- the icon can be displayed when it is modified directly in the code.

If not standard articles are used - for example - overriden by specific template, then all this needs to be done in the template.

As written in this guide:

https://www.phoca.cz/documents/47-phoca- ... joomla-3-3 (for Joomla! 3.3 and later versions)
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/47-phoca- ... e-joomla-3

Unfortunately the PDF icon is not a part of Phoca PDF and Phoca PDF cannot set it (as article is a part of Joomla! itself or template - there Phoca PDF cannot change anything).

Yes, of course, updating to latest version will be great, but first you need to find way how to set the PDF icon in your Joomla! article/template article override.

Please read the guide and try to find the template part which renders the articles - there the icon needs to be set.

After there will be icon to PDF, then the PDF feature can be tested.

in short:
:: use modify method when you are using specific template
:: the same when you are using older version of Joomla!
:: use system plugin when you are using latest Joomla! and standard template - if this will not work - use modify method

Jan
If you find Phoca extensions useful, please support the project

Thanks Jan,
I tried both methods but none seems to be working
Using the modify method I have some issues
I followed the instruction posted here strictly
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/47-phoca- ... e-joomla-3
Edit the following file (if your template overrides Joomla! content files, you need to edit this file in your template's folder):
components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php
line cca 52
First, I discovered my template folder doesn't have any folder by the name components (I confirmed this by doing a search inside the template folder).
I continued as instructed to edit from Joomla root directory (the code to remove as displayed started from line 60)
Edit the following files (if your template overrides Joomla! content files, you need to edit these files in your template's folder):
components/com_content/views/category/tmpl/blog_item.php
components/com_content/views/featured/tmpl/default_item.php
line cca 38
Again I couldn't find any of this in my template folder
I edited from the directory inside Joomla root folder
components/com_content/views/featured/tmpl/default_item.php
editing this was successful.

But inside this file
components/com_content/views/category/tmpl/blog_item.php
I couldn't find this code
<?php if ($params->get('show_print_icon').......<?php endif; ?>
So there is actually nothing to replace here.
Then I proceed to the next page
thinking I'll get lucky but all to nothing
Phoca PDF icon still no where to be found on my webpages
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO????? :( :(

be sure, above line exists, apprx. line 25.

Concerning: https://www.phoca.cz/documents/47-phoca- ... joomla-3-3
Jan:
Edit the following file (if your template overrides Joomla! content files, you need to edit this file in your template's folder):
layouts/joomla/content/icons.php (in your template, it should be: templates/your_template/html/layouts/com_content/icons.php)

are you sure, that no template override exist? > Folder: "html" and then inside files .....

Following information also: http://www.joomshaper.com/forums/joomla ... compatible
This just in addition, if problems occurs after core/template update.

regards, Christine
