Download and Gallery together

Is there any way of integrating gallery and download so that they can see the same files.

For example I have some posters (in pdf and jpg hi-res format) which I want to be accessible through download so that I can control access and track usage. I also have preview images in lo-res sized to fit in the component area and thumbnails both for use in phoca download.

I would like to use gallery to show the preview images as well as having them available in the download listing, clicking on an image in gallery would take you to the download page for the hi-res file.

Unfortunately download can't see files (apart from thumbnails) outside the /phocadownload/ area and gallery cant see images outside the /images/phocagallery/ area. It would be really useful if both components could access files in each others area.

While we are about it I find it a pain that download thumbnails have to reside in /images/phocadownload/ - why can't they be in the /phocadownload/ area with their parent files.

In addition having to used the "_phocathmbnail" suffix makes for very cumbersome filenames. I prefer to use "th_" as a prefix. Why not make it configurable what to use and whether it is prefix or suffix and also the location for thumbnails (which could default to the same folder as the download file it refers to)

When adding a file currently I seem to have to do three separate uploads to different places - the main file, the preview, and the thumbnail - this is awkward.

The main issue though is wanting gallery to be able to access files in /phocoadownload/ and vice versa.

May be this is possible and I haven't found out how? Could I do it by creating a symlink to the download folder in the gallery folder I wonder?

Hi, because of different access rights, etc. it is not possible to use the same files. In fact you can use Phoca Download or Phoca Cart as gallery too (in Phoca Download, there are no thumbnails, so the image sizes need to be managed by yourself, in Phoca Cart there are the same (only basic three - large, medium, small) thumbnails like in Phoca Gallery

But mostly a combination is used, displaying the images per Phoca Gallery:

Hmm, I see what you've done on the template images/download page, but you are still having to duplicate files and not getting quite the effect I want. It is a possible work-around though.

I might have a play on a test site with symlinks to see if I can make the relevant /images folder visible to phocadownload or vice versa. Appreciate the point in the documentation about some sites wanting to put download files outside the public_html area which I can see would be an issue in those cases.

I've already done quite a lot of template overrides on phocadownload to get list pages looking how I want them and not necessarily using the fields as you intended, and also re-ordering the data entry fields in the admin interface to push all the ones I don't use off the bottom of the screen. I've not yet found a satisfactory way of displaying a gallery from within download as well as having a list page with the layout I want.

Is it possible to "hijack" the link of a Phoca Gallery category? In other words, can I edit the link to where a Gallery category points? It would be useful because in this way a Phoca Gallery category image could be linked to a Phoca Download category page with the downloadable files.
Is it possible somehow?

Hi, I think, the only way is to make customization directly in the code, to set the link exactly on the place you need it and depends on which dynamically feature you need (if the link will be static or somehow created dynamically by some ID )
