Hi, thanks for the extension. It is 'nearly' what I am looking for... except....
I've read a few other posts in regards to this subject and am a bit disappointed that it doesn't handle access via 'groups' (except default 'Registered'). I do understand that I could add specific users, but that is no good when you get many users and they change a lot. If I understand it correctly (and please correct me if I am wrong), i cannot do the following:
Create a user group OUTSIDE the default 5 Joomla groups (Registered, Public etc) with specific permissions and add this group via the 'Access' parameter in Categories. The effect is that I can apply specific access levels/permissions to GROUPS of users (rather than just the 'Registered' group). The site I am building requires this, as it has many different types of access levels/permissions and they can change a lot.
That said, great extension, and well done on making it free. I also appreciate why you've done it this way (you mention the bulk of people use it with pics etc and wanted it this way), and that the change would take much more time and testing re permissions etc. I guess I'll have to go to that 'other' document management extension and pay to get this functionality.
Thanks again.

Re: Access/permissions and user groups
Hi, access rights are managed in Phoca Download by groups. But you can extend these Joomla! standard rules by upload or delete rights for each users.
So if you set access for categories, it is just standard that you can set the ACL groups including your newly added groups.

Re: Access/permissions and user groups
Hi Jan, sincere apologies!
Your component indeed handles this.
I made the embarrassing mistake of getting user groups/access levels and permissions mixed up. My only excuse was it was late here in Oz when I was testing. When i saw your screenshot from the help I immediately thought "oops, think I've missed something here". I had... a Rookie mistake.
Cheers,
