I have a download file that i can access directly with this link:
https://www.tbmakeover.org/rules-info-2 ... over-rules
I need this to be a short-url, so i set up a hidden menu item using system links, but it then gives a 404 error. How can i link directly? I need the downloads to be counted!

Re: Direct Download via menu item not working
Hi, if the link to the file is a direct link, it cannot be counted, because there script is not running (to count the hit), the file is just downloaded by the server without running the script which can count the download (see similar topics in this forum)
What do you mean with "short-url". There is either a link to standard download with count function or the direct link without count option.

Re: Direct Download via menu item not working
I can paste the URL in a browser window and download, which will count on the file count. But I cannot set up a menu item that points to that URL.

Yes, there is no such option to make a link direct to download. The way can be copying the URL and paste it as menu link (URL type) but this means doing it for all items
and there will be no short menu alias version

Re: Direct Download via menu item not working
Hi, then this is much more a question on Joomla! CMS developers as making menu item in such form is completely outside Phoca Download component and it cannot influence it. Really hard to say, I don't have any experiences with making direct links in menu items
