Change SKU code when changing product option

If changing a products option, is there a way to automatically change the SKU for that product?

I.e. Product 1 has two options, a and b
The product with the standard option has SKU 12345
The product with the option b has SKU 12345-b

When adding product 1b to the cart, can it somehow show the SKU for that specific product?

Hi, if you will use advanced stock options feature, then each option can have own SKU, such can be displayed on detail view, see:

In options, you can set that SKU or EAN will change dynamically when changing options.
