Add tag canonical to phoca cart

Post by oesch.web@gmail.com »

Hi
I contacted the producer of 4seo (one of the best SEO extensions for Joomla) if he can add automatical canonical to the phoca cart products.
Hes answer:
"I think you'd be better off just asking for it with the Phoca team. For them it's really easy to do and would be good for them to have this as it's a basic SEO feature. They can add it in a few minutes for sure."

Is it so? I can add it to the code if you give me advice for testing.

Hi, the question is what do you exactly mean with "add automatical cannonical"?

Hi, you mostly have one product in different categories. This gives several pages with dublicate content. So wie must define for search engines one page as "canonical page":
1) domain.ch/shop/categorie1/product1 -> set this to canonical
2) domain.ch/shop/categore2/product1

May be automatical is not be possible, but there should be a field "canonical page" where you can enter the url of one page.
This is the solution of virtuemart. And eshop has promised to add that field too.

Hi, thank you for the info. Maybe it is simpler when some category will be marked as canonical for each product, because I can imagine it can be hard to control each combination of Category vs. product and mark only some specific combination as canonical

it's a useful feature.

I would just add a field to products where user can define by himself the canonical url. So everytime a detail page of that product is shown it contains that canonical meta tag.

Maybe even a whole tab for SEO related stuff, Meta Tags, Page Title, SEF Urls etc...

Hard to say, if this can be managed in reality. When there are e.g. thousands of products and and you need to discover URL for each product by typing whole SEF URL

hm, I'd say leave that Problem to the user for now.
Its no Problem for new shops or shops with only a few products...
Plus its not a Problem if the canonical url is not set, google finds the canonical most of the time by it self...

OK, is no problem for little shops. I can solve it by direct write to the 4SEO Extension.
But for bigger shops it would be great...
