Phoca Gallery Plugin not working on Joomla 4

Post by scubabyss-3 »

I have just converted a clone site to Joomla 4 following the procedure for Phoca Gallery and installed the Phoca Gallery Plugin.
My gallery are working and I checked that after loading data the category ID were the same as in the Joomla 3 site.

The plugin does not display images in the articles.
For exemple {phocagallery view=category|categoryid=75|limitstart=0|limitcount=8|imageordering=1} does not display the images. On the orginal Joomla 3 version, it's still OK

Plugin is activated.

Any clue on what to do to get this plugin working ?

Kind Regards
Scubabyss

As a supplementary information, I have installed Phoca Photo plugin, activated it and added {phocaphoto view=category|id=75} in the article. This plugin is working. Unfortunately its all the photos of a category not as for Phoca Gallery Plugin selection of a range of photos.

I suspect that Phoca Gallery Plugin is not working with latest version of Phoca Gallery 4.5.0 and Joomla 4.

Hi, there is a version of Phoca Gallery plugin for Joomla 4:

https://www.phoca.cz/download/category/ ... ery-plugin

But in fact, it works the same like Phoca Phoca plugin. There are no more specific parameters, only

view = category
id = id of category
max = maximum count of images

See demo:
https://www.phoca.cz/demo/phocagallery-plugin

All extensions are now overwritten with only basic parameters so they can be extended through new parameters in future (but cleaning it was needed as they included more than 10 years obsolete code)

Hi Jan,

the version you published doesn't fix my issue. Reason: formerly the category was selected using parameter categoryid. If I now have to use id instead, I have to edit all former content. Would be great, if you could fix this or alternatively support both parameters.

Hi, I have added categorid as alias for id, can you test it (in following Beta version):

Many thx Jan. Works. Looking forward getting the full-featured gallery plugin. But for the time being, it's helpful workaround.

Hi Jan (I'm new to the forum - well done for the huge workload you handle!),
I loved the HighslideJS in Joomla3 - and if I used “highslidedescription=3” in PhocaGallery plugin call, it enabled the detail/ expanded view to show the filename at the top, with free-text description at the foot, and it worked perfectly on smartphones as well as PCs and tablets. Truly perfect!
I have installed your v4.5.1Beta which does handle id= and categoryid=. Great!
However, the ongoing issues are:
- the gallery display shows thumbnails that are are too small, the filename text is too big, and nothing like the wonderful HighslideJS appearance!
- None of the options (Bootstrap, Standard Popup window, Magnific, Photoswipe) appear to make any change to the poor display of the thumbnails, or the detail view.
- the detail view shows an enlarged thumbnail, not the main pic file.
I really hope you will be able to provide something exactly like HighslideJS - and the highslidedescription=3.
Very Best

Hi,

1) can you paste a screenshot. Unfortunately Highslide JS is not responsive so it is not used on modern website
2) the detail view show and always showed large thumbnails (it is explained here in the forum, it is not possible to display e.g. original image which mostly has from 2MB to 5MB). Yes, there was some exception for Highslide JS where the parameter could allow to display such file but when there is no Highslide JS, this needs to be customized directly for website where Phoca Gallery is running - this is very problematic feature - to display original images and if someone needs such feature, the template override should be done and customized version of category view should be done (e.g. changed large thumbnail to original image). And of course the recommendation is always - do not do this. It is better to set large thumbnails to same size like original thumbnails.

Unfortunately, I am not developer of the detail window methods so we are there very limited (by license, used javascript, responsive option, etc.) when adding different detail window methods into Phoca Gallery :-(

Hi Jan,
Thanks so much for this.
My main site is the Hungerford Virtual Museum – a local history site with over 12,000 photos displayed in about 1,400 “Photo Galleries”. PhocaGallery and its Plugin are very important to me!!
HighslideJS was so perfect because the appearance of the thumbnail view was brilliant, including the filename, and the two buttons for “Image Detail” and “Image Download”. I really need those options available. (screenshot attached)
The detail view was excellent too, with the filename and the descriptive text displayed nicely (screenshot attached).
On J4, I seem to be unable to get any change in the default display – selecting Bootstrap, Standard, No popup, Magnific, Photoswipe appears to make no difference. (Screenshots of category view and detail view attached).
