Mosaic and Masonry Effect

Post by KarEm »

Hi Jan,

Joomla 4.2.3
PG 4.5.2

I would like to ask again about the two effects mentioned above, as I think they have not yet been fully answered.

Mosaic Effect (Categories View)
In PG 4.4.3 I used the Mosaic Effect for the Categories View (analogous to https://www.phoca.cz/joomla3demo/) and was thus able to give a first nice visual impression of what the different subcategories contain on the entry/start page. From my point of view, the possibility to present the subcategories through several ever-changing image compositions was particularly attractive.

In PG 4.5.2 I could not find the Mosaic Effect for the Categories View so far, the options (of PG 4.4.3) are not available anymore.
Will this Mosaic Effect be implemented again?

Masonry Effect (Category View)

Recently there is a plugin for this effect. If I understood the brief description correctly, only for images that are to be integrated into articles.
In PG 4.4.3 this effect could be activated for the category view.
Will there be this possibility again?

Thanks

Regards
KarEm

Hi,

Mosaic Effect (Categories View) - I don't think, this will be returned back. As written in many posts, Phoca Gallery needed to be modernized and cleaned - so a lot of features were removed to be sure, the code is modern, simple and clean. And the Mosaic effect was very obsolete. So for now, I don't think, this will be returned back in the same way. Maybe another modern method, when there will be one.

Masonry Effect (Category View) ... is a little bit different story. The idea was to remove obsolete, heavy and in some cases not correct Javascript solution and replace it with pure CSS solution. There is a draft for CSS to have "Masonry" attribute for grids but such draft was implemented in Firefox only (development only) but not in other browsers, so we will see. The plugin now includes CSS only solution - Grid - which is not native "Masonry CSS" solution but at least it does not use Javascript. So if there will be no problems with this solution, I plan to return Masonry effect (done only by CSS) back to component too.

Masonry - done by Javascript - removed
Masonry - done by CSS Grid (attribute masonry) - we still need to wait until browser will implement it
Masonry - done by CSS Grid (without attribute masonry - so no native solution) - now used in plugin and when there will be no problems, it will be added to component too.
