Using Phoca POS With Barcode Scanner

I've seen that Phoca POS can operate with a barcode scanner but I assume this means that the products need to be in the system first i.e you need to insert the SKU from the barcode for each product or can the scanner do this for you?

Hi, yes, you need to assign SKU or EAN to the product so scanner can find it.

OK, understood.

So I need to manually input the SKU from the barcode and then when I want to scan products put the cursor in te SKU field and scan, is that correct?

Hi, yes. Of course if there is some database or SKUs for products and they are somehow paired, there could be solution to add SKUs to products progrmatically, but I think, there is no such paired database

An interesting conversation came up with a prospective client...

Can they use their barcode scanner to scan and auto input a product?

I assume this can be done with say an app that can read codes but it would need access to a huge database.

Has anyone else come across this perhaps?
