Category with user categories in it?

Is it possible somehow to make some category as parent for categories that will be created by users?
In this case there is a category called "Member photos" and users should be able to create there individual categories in this top category.

Wow that is wild and almost makes it not useable for most sites with user uploads... For every user there is it becomes less usable. The more images the more need of structure so that images can be found - but that is not possible. Wonder why they even made the user upload feature then.

OMG.... Is it not even possible to have multiple top level categories with the same owner?

This will force every user to create a folder call something like "My stuff" with subfolders in them! Thus no structure AT ALL in the first level. So we went from missing a structure to now having to create one that makes no sense...

Hi, did you read Phoca Gallery documentation. Phoca Gallery uses indepenent database and filesystem layer. For many reasons (see posts in this forum where this is explained)

Users are able in ACL to create one main category and unlimited count of subcategories (depends on settings).

Maybe I don't fully understand your question regarding the main category. so not sure if I answer right.
