Translation to French

Post by MF_Btkp »

Hi Jan and Benno,
I propose my participation in the PhocaCART project. I can help you to translate into French. My English is not the best, but my French is perfect. I can help myself with an automatic translator (as I do on the forum, and correct French errors).
I would like to start with the translation of the Front part of PhocaCART that I just installed (with the kind accompaniment of Benno :)), because I need it, the visitors of my site are mainly French-speaking..
Please let me know if you are interested in my proposal and how we could organize ourselves for this work.
You can answer me by email.
Kind regards,

Download the latest beta from https://github.com/PhocaCz/PhocaCart/re ... Beta62.zip
Extract en-GB.com_phocacart.ini from admin/language/en-GB folder and start translating.

There is no separate frontend and backend part. There is a lot lines to translate but don't give up

After you done install it and check it with Joomla language debug option.
Installation can be done by renaming it to fr-FR.com_phocacart.ini and copy and paste file to corresponding fr-FR language folders.

Installation can be also done by creating installation zip file. You can download another language and compare the structure.

EDIT: Somebody already translated to French but stopped at version 3.5.8.
You can use that for the start. Just add lines that missing until latest version 5 mentioned above.

Yes, that's absolutely right, but I would first ask the creator of the existing French translation whether it can be used as a basic layer. It was Johan Peters, unfortunately I can't find any email address of him. Perhabs he can answer if he read this post... If he does not respond in the foreseeable future, react as Nidzo has suggested.

Bonsoir Nidzo et Benno,
Ok !

Good evening Nidzo and Benno,
Ok! I just looked at the *.ini files indeed, as Nidzo says there are many lines: 3930.
It is true that it would be better to start from the previous translation (there were 3365 lines). Regarding the authorization of the previous translator, let’s not forget that we are open source. Perhaps he thought of putting it in free license (GNU, creative commons, etc.) which allowed Phoca to use it and make it available. Logically, as long as there is no commercial use, there should not be a copyright problem. Usually, the only real obligation is to quote his name correctly if we use his work.
It’s up to you to confirm…
Good evening to all!

Bonjour,

Good morning,
I just got started.
In fact, the question of copyright for the previous translation no longer arises, because the terms to be translated are no longer quite the same, I leave on a new translation, in a new file.
I have a question about special characters.
I saw in the previous translation that it used the corresponding codes, for example (') for the apostrophe, but not for the acute acent (é). What are the rules? Should I do the same?
Good day to all!

Hi,
I only use the German special characters directly in my translations (Ää, Öö, Üü, ß, ` ' ), i.e. no codes. I use Notepad++ as editor to create the translations, because of the good 'Search & Replace' function and the 'Compare file(s)' function.

Kind regards,
Benno

The translation files use UTF-8. So if your file is stored in UTF-8, you don't need to use codes. If you can see them in some old translation strings, maybe this was done in past but this is not necessary today.

Ok, Benno and Jan,

watermark-large.png, watermark-medium.png

Dois-je les laisser en anglais ou les traduire par :
filigrane-large.png, filigrane-medium.png

Ligne 144, que sont Editor / Gallery (est-ce que plus tard, je serai amenée à traduire ces noms?)?

Okay, Benno and Jan,
This is great news! Especially since I started without these codes. In any case, if there is a problem later on, we will be able to use a «find/replace» function.
I have a few short questions for translation, as I am not yet familiar with the component, I lack context for certain terms, for example:

Line 54 and following – For the word “Context”, what kind of function is it in PhocaCART

Line 135 for watermarked file names:
watermark-large.png, watermark-medium.png
Should I leave them in English or translate them by:
filigrane-large.png, filigrane-medium.png

Line 144, what are Editor/Gallery (will I have to translate these names later?)?

Sincerely,

Context in this case is some kind of content type:

Image

This means, in which context is the content type. This is some kind of category where different items are stored in different "categories" in this case - in different contexts.

Ainsi, c'est donc bien le même mot en Français (avec un e)

Thus, it is the same word in French (with an e)
:)
