how to set email component to use a specific SMTP server

I am trying to use the email component to send email confirmations for purchases through virtuemart. how can i parameter my ISP SMTP server in the email component?

I managed to set the SMTP server in joonla admin and i can use phoca email component to send email but it fails to send email notifications from virtuemart
anybody has an idea of what the pb could be?

Yes, Phoca uses the standard Joomla! framework email function, so the Joomla! framework email methods are called (if it works in Joomla! then it works in Phoca)
