Showing random images from the latest categories

Post by empy »

Hi,

Our site will, once ready, have a lot of photo galleries (categories) uploaded by users. The front page will be a summary showing what's new on the site. I would like to use a Phoca mod to pick a random photo out of the N latest categories, where N would be confgured by admin, and probaly 3 or something like that in our case.

I found:

> Phoca Gallery Image Module is a Joomla! 1.5 Module which shows image(s) from Phoca Gallery
> component in module positon. Random image or latest images can be displayed

I thought that "latest images" means just that. OK, I can select the 3 latest categories and select Random. But the selected categories are not the latest anymore after a while. And if I deselect all catgeorties, and let the mod pick a random shot from the whole collection, the users will not notice the new stuff as most shown shots will be old.

So is this really a feature request, or is there some setting I missed?

Mike

BTW, The same functionality would be needed in Phoca Gallery Menu Module too.

Hi, you can display e.g. latest images, if you select some categories, these latest images will be selected only from these categories.

Menu module only display the tree of categories.

If this does not fit your needs, I think, it must be customized, e.g. you can modify the sql query in the module, etc.

Thanks,

Nope, it will not work for us without tweaking. As I wrote, selecting categories is out of the question as new categories appear all the time and the admin would have to update the list of selected categories constantly.

We rarely add photos to existing categories. Our categories are even-specic, and a new category is created almost every time new stuff is added.

Hello Jan,

i have been having a couple questionable problems with 3.1.3 phocas (thanks for your time with all the upgrades) i have 3.1.3 phocas on a joomla site, the 1 thing i cant seem to work is the front end upload tool for all users (cant seem to find the right setting to allow that....

and then the Random image module for the site (one of my favorites) i dont know what version of it will work with joomla 2.5

thats it for now
Thanks for 1 of the best photo gallerys

Hi, use the latest version of the Phoca Gallery Image for 2.5

What you mean "for all users" - just set "registered users" for upload rights in category:
