I love Phoca Download. It has become a HUGE part of my site. Thank you!!!
Now, for the but...
The Meta description and keywords that you can type in under each file just don't seem to work. I can type in whatever I want there, but it never appears in the code when I check it on my site. Why is that? Everyone experiencing this? Or just me?
Also, I need Page Titles! Whenever I open a page, all I get is the page title "File Downloads" (from my menu link to the download section. It is a little frustrating for SEO, and Social bookmarking. What I really need is an option to use the Category name as a page title, or even Category name + File name.
Are these possible? I've already donated to the cause, but I would be willing to donate more to get these options integrated.

Hi, for me it works normally, see:
https://www.phoca.cz/download/file/280-p ... oad-plugin
and see the html code of this site:

https://www.phoca.cz/download/file/280-p ... oad-plugin
and see the html code of this site:
Code: Select all
<meta name="keywords" content="phoca download plugin, phoca, joomla, plugin" />
<meta name="description" content="This is a Phoca Download Plugin which can be used in content" />

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
Hey Jan,
Ok, I can see that your keywords and descriptions work IF you are using them on a section or category. I just tested that on my site and I can generate the same code. That helps
BUT, there isn't a title for that specific category or section...just DOWNLOAD (or something to that effect) - your site is the same.
And it still doesn't solve my problem with individual ads. If you put in keywords or descriptions for individual ads, then nothing shows up in a category view in the source code. The only way you get any meta tags for individual files is if you create an actual menu link to that specific item and follow it. Then you get the keywords, description, and optional title if you manually add it again. It just isn't feasible to create a menu link to each and every file...it would be sloppy, take forever, and make navigation annoying to my users.
I would think that titles should be generated based on the category/section that you are in. And, descriptions and keywords should also include meta info from the individual files within the categories. Then it would be SEO friendly...'cause right now it is impossible to get google to index it properly.
Thanks for your assistance. Hope you can work a fix for it

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
Hi,
In category view, the keywords and description meta tags for the category are displayed, in file view where only one specific file is displayed, the keywords and description meta tags for the current file.
Google indexes the content mainly, so the files are listed in content which is SEO friendly. If you paste all the keywords and meta description e.g. of all 100 files into categories meta tag, then your meta information will be so large that they will be ignored by robots, because they are so large and do not include unique information
And I think, this can be confusing for users. There are meta info for categories which are displayed in category view and they are meta info for files which are displayed in file view. How to explain, that instead of category meta info all the file meta info will be displayed

The site is displayed file keywords and file meta description not category or section meta info.I can see that your keywords and descriptions work IF you are using them on a section or category
Not sure where you mean, there is no category or section title. If on the file view, then this needs to be customized in the file template or use the breadcrumbsthere isn't a title for that specific category or section

If you mean ads = files ... then of course, you cannot display keywords or description of specific file in category view. Because in category view there is displayed the whole list of files, so which file should add keywords or description if there are e.g. 70 filesIf you put in keywords or descriptions for individual ads, then nothing shows up in a category view in the source code

In category view, the keywords and description meta tags for the category are displayed, in file view where only one specific file is displayed, the keywords and description meta tags for the current file.
... then this is everything else but not SEO friendlydescriptions and keywords should also include meta info from the individual files within the categories. Then it would be SEO friendly

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
I mean the page title...If I follow my menu link to the Section List Layout, I get a page title from the menu link text (ie. "File Downloads". If I continue on and click a SPECIFIC Section or Category from that Section List Layout, the page title just becomes the name of my website: The Laughable News. Why isn't it also displaying the category or section name?there isn't a title for that specific category or section
---------
I see what you mean about not being able to add all the keywords and descriptions...it could be messy and hard to understand or ignored by google. But, I'm still confused as to what use the description and keywords have if they aren't incorporated into the website. They aren't seen by Google, and they don't help locate files in the Joomla search...so what good are they?If you put in keywords or descriptions for individual ads, then nothing shows up in a category view in the source code
Thanks for being understanding...I'm not exactly a genius with this stuff.

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
Hi,
They are. Categories Meta info is displayed in category view and File Meta info is displayed in File view, see:
https://www.phoca.cz/download/file/280-p ... oad-plugin (the meta info is taken from File)
2) Google takes care about the content not about the meta info. For Google or other intelligent search engines, the conent is important (content is 99% of SEO)
But of course, if you think it will be good to display file meta info in category view, it is OK (I am not SEO expert so cannot say, only my ideas are correct
). Then you need to customize the category view - to make e.g. foreach which will get info about all meta info from all files loaced in the site and then add all this string to the meta of the site.
I still not uderstand the title, if I will try it on Phoca Download then I can see:
https://www.phoca.cz/download/section/3-phoca-download - it is a section view and above the section title is displayed
https://www.phoca.cz/download/category/3 ... oad-plugin - it is a category view and above the category title is displayed
https://www.phoca.cz/download/file/280-p ... oad-plugin - it is a file view and above the file title is displayed.
If you want to display all the titles instead of menu link title, then this needs to be customized in the template (in Phoca Download or in template which can override Phoca Download templates because Phoca Download is made in MVC)
components/com_phocadownload/views/sections/tmpl/default.php
components/com_phocadownload/views/section/tmpl/default.php
components/com_phocadownload/views/category/tmpl/default.php
components/com_phocadownload/views/file/tmpl/default.php

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
Page Title:
I don't mean the title of a section, or category, or item...I mean the actual Page Title displayed at the top of the browser (or on each window tab). In all 3 example urls you provided, they show "Download" as the page title.
See what I mean? Whereas on this forum page, the actual "Page Title" is "Phoca Forum - View topic - Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords"
I'll have a look at the files you mentioned and see what I can do.

Re: Titles, Meta Description, Meta Keywords
Ok, now I uderstand, this needs to be customized, in Joomla! the page title can be set in Parameters (System) - but Parameters (System) are applied to the whole menu link, it is set for itemid. This is why the title is the same for the whole menu link
Other behaviour must be customized in the code.
E.g. Phoca Gallery includes such parameter - in Parameters (Basic) you can set the following parameter: Display Category Name in Page Title - then the category is displayed in Title. So maybe this can be customized the same way how this is set in Phoca Gallery.
