Hey Jan,
I see your are from Czech. I recently started brewing my own beer, and my first style was a Czech pilsner. I just finished lagering it, and I like it, but I'm unsure if it matches the style. So, I'm wondering if you are a beer drinker, and if you can recommend some good local pilsners from your country. I'd like to pick some up here in Canada and sample them to see how close I came.

Re: Off Topic - Czech Pilsner
Hi, it is really difficult to say, in fact the large breveries was bought by multinational corporations which then all produces the same beer
But I think the top Pilsner is still the Pilsner from Pilsen (Plzeň).
So the answer is easy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilsner_Urquell ... I think it is exported to Canada, so you should compare your beer with Pilsener Urquell. I am not the right beer drinker, but yes, Pilsener Urquell is really great beer (I hope, it becomes not less while exporting such a distance ... in fact the best way is to buy a ticket to Prague and move to Pilsen and test it by yourself
You should test this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweiser_Budvar too. (But not sure if you can get it becuase there is still some legal dispute (I think, it was not solved yet ) between Czech Rep. (owner of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweiser_Budvar) and Anheuser-Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anheuser-Busch)
Not sure if Budweiser Budvar (produced in Budweis - České Budějovice) uses the same technology as Pilsner Urquell but I think, most of Czech beers are made by the same technology - as lager produced by bottom fermentation.

(source: wikipedia.org)Pilsner (also pilsener or simply pils) is a type of pale lager. It takes its name from the city of Pilsen (Plzeň), Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, where it was developed in the 19th century and where the original Pilsner Urquell beer is produced today.

Re: Off Topic - Czech Pilsner
Hey jan,
Wow - that is a lot of info - you MUST like beer
Yes, Urquell is very good. We get the actual beer brewed in Czech, imported. Of course, I'm sure it is even better coming out of a tap in a local Czech pub.
I've never tried Budweiser Budvar...I'll have to look around for it...the funny thing is I wouldn't have taken a second look if you hadn't mentioned it, as Budweiser has a bad name here. They brew watered down monkey piss in North America, mostly using corn and rice (But they are a separate company than the one over there).

Re: Off Topic - Czech Pilsner
I now see it on wikipedia, the Budweiser Budvar has other name in North America:
Budějovický Budvar is marketed under the label Czechvar in North America. The same label with a green bottle is used in Canada.
So you should look at Czechvar in green bottle
