phoca gallery stop displaying main categories

Perhaps anyone can help me to solve a little problem with phoca.
Everything was working properly until I installed "joomla Display News" module. I Don't know why, after I installed this module, Phoca stop working displaying a PHP error in mod_dn:

"Call to a member function load() on a non-object in mysite/modules/mod_dn/helper.php at line 179"

After that I uninstalled that DisplayNews moddule, and redo a new Main menu item, pointing to the Phoca Gallery again, everything seems to be OK again. But only a little thing stop work now. Phoca doesn't display the main categories. Before this problem when I clic in the menu item pointed to phoca component, phoca show me the main categories. In this moment, phoca only display all categories (categories end sub-categories at same time). If I choose to show sub-categories only in new pages (to force phoca to display only the main categories), the phoca show me nothing. I tried to solve this issue changing many parameters in the phoca options, but unfortunatly, I think my phoca gallery lost the capability to display the main categories like before.
Can someone help me to solve this issue? Did someone experienced a similar problem like that?

Hello,

Ok, thanks for the hyperlink. This information help me to better understand the difference between "parameter settings" and "global settings". But, in fact, unfortunatly, this issue seems to overlap the parameter or global settings. I'll explain this issue again, and sorry if my english is fair understandable. Ok, lets go:

When I create (in Joomla 1.5) a "main menu item" pointed to the phocagallery there are two possible kinds of "main menu item":

a) all categories > Phoca Gallery Category List Layout

and

b) category > Phoca Gallery Category Layout

If I select the a) option, the phocagallery must be show us "main categories" that I have in my phoca administration

If I select the b) option, I must choose what specific category (or sub-category) I want to show with this "main menu item"

My problem is: I selected the a) option, and the phocagallery doesn't display any "phoca main category".

If I whant to view something (some kind phoca thumbnails), I must "force" the "phoca global settings" to "display subcategories = yes" item in the "Categories View Settings (Category List)". But that's not the result that I want to, because this option result show all categories and subcategories, and not only the main categories.
Before the issue that I described before (in the first post), the phoca show me the main categories properly. After this issu, phoca stop displaying main categories in the screen, after mouse clic in the "phoca main menu item".
My trick to "circumvent" the issue was put the phoca gallery tree side by side with phoca screen area (at the joomla template). Phoca tree in a left screen area, and phoca gallery in a right screen area. And when we clic in the phoca main menu item, the screen show only the tree in the left, and nothing, in tge right. Only start showing phoca thumbnails in the right area, when we clic in any phoca tree branches.

Categories view settings can be applied only for categories view, so if you set in Parameters component of categories view (category list) that you want to show only main categories you should get only main categories...

Display Subcategories - no ==> it means you will see only main categories in the categories view then if you click e.g. on some main category, the subcategory will be displayed (category view)

Thanks one more time for your patience.

My phoca problem is that you describe. But, when I put "Display Subcategories - no" phoca must display "phoca main categories", but doesn't display at all. My phocagallery area, stay blank.
But in the beginning, after phoca installation, everything was ok; phoca showed "main categories". This issue start occured after the conflict I described in my 1st post (with Joomla Display News module).

Did you try to reinstall Phoca Gallery (or an update)?

I have the same problem...but I hadn´t installed any Joomla Display News module....when switch off displaying subcategories, I have no categories displayed.

OK...solved for me...I had to switch on "Display empty categories"
