Transifex gives ability one language file to be updated and modified by many ppl, some extensions like Phoca Gallery and Ozio Gallery and even Joomla! 1.7 core are too much for one person.
Via slick and easy interface you can see every line of the language file, whole progress in percents and even to give suggestions if you found a bug in the original (English) files.
Using of http://www.transifex.net/ is easier then standard way of translating with Notepad + or such editors. Registration in 4 fields, activation and you're in.
Most of the Phoca Extensions with latest English files and translations are there already, you have only one option. To pick for example Phoca Download, to hit tab Teams and check if your language is exist there as team and coordinator for that translation, if not to apply for new language for example English American (en-US). One important thing you must remember, when you pick your language, please be sure that contains xx-XX in the brackets after language name, like English (en-GB), instead of English (en). English (en) is used in old versions of GNU Gettext and .PO files, mostly used in WordPress and Drupal.
You can translate whatever u want from the selected file, and some other to contribute the rest. Or u can complete is as whole, then to download it for personal use or/and publishing somewhere. Once a day all project pages are verified for new/updated translations and will be submitted to Ian or directly to JoomlaCode.org server.
Let's take a look as example on Phoca Download - https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/pd-i18n/
On the main page you can see 3 tabs, Overview, Teams and Widgets.
Overview shows detailed information about the project, coordinators and team members, also activities and releases if any.
Teams shows currently assigned languages to teams and language teams requested approval.
Widgets is a funny place.....
On overview once u clicked on en-GB.com_phocadownload.ini u can see all currently available translations bellow:
English - 100%
Bulgarian - 100%
Spanish - 94%
Turkish - 94%
Dutch - 94%
German - 93%
Czech - 90%
Italian - 90%
Russian - 90%
Swedish - 90%
French - 80%
Slovak - 80%
That's all "current" translations from JoomlaCode.org server. Via transifex such things like 80/90 or 50% translated strings can't happen.
If you have questions, feel free to ask here. This unofficial yet, not confirmed by Ian. And is made to keep my languages (Bulgarian, Macedonian and Serbian) up to date. You can join and enjoy the easiest way of translating and keeping translations up to date, or to use your old way.
