Phoca menu

I have phoca linked to a menu called 'downloads' which is in my main navigation. When clicked it takes you to the download landing page (see first image link). I have removed the phoca catergory list and added my own jpgs which link off to the relevant catergory. This is a module assigned to the download page although it appears on every page (see second image link).

What seems to be happening is that phoca only works if assigned to a menu so if I create a seperate article and add my jpg links to that the links appear to be unpublished.

Does anyone have a work around?
