image names

I know it is possible to hide image names and show category names by putting a space in the name field of the image

but I have a trillion images, I have to go back and edit each one?

isnt there an easy way of hiding the image name and still show the sub-cat name?

typically my category name is something like "Mountains" and my images are labeled dsc12345677898.jpg

Users of my site will upload a lot off photo and they "need" a fast and simple way to change names.
