Manage access levels via user instead of category

Post by kona333 »

Is there a way to instead manage access levels through the user instead, so I click on a user then get a list of the categories and can just select from the list which categories they can view?

At the moment it seems I have to go to category and select which users can view/download, etc. But, if I have 100 categories and want to share 50 of them, I have to individually go through all 50 categories selecting the user each time. Turning a 1min job into a 30min job.

If not, what's the possibility of getting this built, and cost?

Hi, I think this should be a question for Joomla! developers as assigning rights to users/groups is a Joomla! feature and Phoca Download only follows Joomla! rules.

Thanks for the reply Jan.

I'm sure it could be built within Phoca Download though couldn't it? For instance corephp's Community ACL, which I've used before, allows you to manage users and assign them to groups within the component.

Virtuemart does the same with assigning users to shopping groups.

This is both 1.5 so both had their own groups rather than default Joomla ones.

So I wonder how difficult is it to have individual user management within Phoca Download? It doesn't even need to assign users to groups, only assign users to Phoca Download categories, which it already does, just the other way around.

Hi, for now no idea how this could be difficult, as I didn't do such changes, I will take a look at it - added to feature request list.
