Mac os x 10.6.6 + Firefox 3.6.13 - Preview problem

Post by stefanocardo »

Hi all, I noticed an incorrect behaviour with firefox 3.6.16 on clicking the Preview button: the box for preview the pdf file opens, but appear the firefox window that asks you to choose to open the file with "Preview" application or to save the file on disk. Whatever you choose nothing appears on the white box... i.e. no preview of the file.

Did you already noticed it?

Is there a configuration to solve it?

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi, there seems to be some problem between Firefox + Modal Box (used in Joomla!), try to test if standard popup (can be set in parameters) works ok?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone solved this problem? My client reported the issue to me and I verified it using Browserstack.com. When clicking "Preview" of a PDF file, it works perfectly in Windows browsers and on Chrome & Safari on the Mac. However, Firefox says this:
You have chosen to open: name-of-file.pdf

which is a: Preview Document (155 KB)

What should Firefox do with this file?
Hoping someone can help :)

Hi Jan,

I took your suggestion and changed the settings to standard popup. That works better - at least now the user won't see a big white blank area and a modal window. The user is still prompted to open the preview file, but there's a setting to automatically prevent similar prompts in future. It seems that Firefox on the Mac handles PDF files differently, and a plug-in is available to address the issue:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdfjs/
