.exe Files Not Working

Post by shem »

Hello,

We just recently switched hosting providers and since migrating to the new server my .exe files fail to download with an internal server error. On chrome it says "Error 6 (net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND): The file or directory could not be found". A direct link that just includes the file path does work but the links created by phoca download do not.

I am sure it is related to the new server security restrictions however I have been talking extensively with them and they are now pointing the finger at the component settings, which I personally find unlikely since we have been using phoca for years on another server and no settings were changed when we migrated. Anyway one of the changes we did make on the new server is added the following to .htaccess.
AddType application/octet-stream .exe
I chose this because this is the mime type listed in phocas allowed file types and i figured if it worked on the old server this must be the correct mime type.

Even with this change the links are still not working. Interestingly though we have uploaded an unrelated .exe file which works however creating new links to our existing .exe files or deleting and recreating them does not. Is this normal that some .exe files might work while others will not. Is an .exe an .exe or is there the potential for different mime types and we have somehow not covered our type of .exe.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers Shem

Hi, I have solved two similar cases before. Both was a security settining on server, so I think, this is a server limit (security settings) ... I have tested the exe without any problems and users who have had the problems solved it by ZIPing the EXE on the server where there was set a security limit for this
