Files stored in phocadownload folder - Access Issue

Post by slighted66 »

Hi!
I wasn't able to find anything on the topic by searching .. hopefully I didnt overlook anything.

I have some images I am calling on with a simple plugin that uses tags in an article. It then displays 3 images in an article.
I downloaded phocadownload because I was hoping I can protect these images from public access.
I uploaded the pictures into root/phocadownload folder and categorized them in a way that only the registered group has access to the categories the pics are stored in (following the Access Rights article on phoca.cz)

Note, I don't want to put a download link into the articles calling on the pictures. I still want to use the plugin that displays thumbnails of larger images.
Calling on the images stored in the phocadownload folder with the plugin works fine, but the access rights dont really work. Even though the categories are only accessible for registered group, if I copy/paste the direct picture link public users can still access the pictures.

Is it possible to link to larger images in phocadownload folder WITHOUT a download button and still have them be protected by the category settings?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, while protecting files, you still limited by common features.

- if you will display images in browser, they cannot be protected, when they are displayed, then in fact are download in user's browser
- yes, the solution is to display only thumbnails e.g. and the original image should be protected by e.g. Phoca Download - but you need to do following:

- you need to add the original image to Phoca Download - to some category - and set that the file is displayed e.g. for registered users (access rights)
- but this is not all you need to do - you need to protect the folder on server so it will be not accessible direct - e.g. by access
- or your will create own folder for the files - behind public_html - see:
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/17-phoca- ... ng-folders
https://www.phoca.cz/documents/17-phoca- ... tml-folder

but only download is protected, if you will paste the images (original images) to phocadownloadpap folder, such image is not protected - when the image can be previewed in browser, then in cannot be protected.
