Can download but not upload

Post by mrcross »

I have set an absolute path which is outside public_html
I have enabled FTP in Joomla 3.1.5
I cannot upload either in front end or back end using Phoca Download, however if i place the files in the folder using an FTP client then I can see and download them in the front end.
If I upload the files into the chosen folder using Cute FTP and using the same credentials as I set when enabling the FTP layer in Joomla then I can see and select the files when creating a new file in "Files" under Phoca Download in the back end.
Once I have done that I can view the file listing in the front end and download the file without a problem

However if I try to use Phoca Download to upload a file, either from front end or back end then it fails
From the backend I get
Warning
JFTP: :store: Bad response
Warning: Failed to move file!
Error
Unable to upload file

From the frontend I get
Warning
JFTP: :mkdir: Bad response
JFTP: :chmod: Bad response
JFTP: :store: Bad response
Warning: Failed to move file!

Phoca Download version is 3.0.3
permissions on the folder are set to 755

Any suggestions?

Hi, if you have the folder outside the public_html, I think you need to upload the files per your ftp client, not inside the Joomla! (but I think, more can tell you your webhosting operator)

Many thanks Jan, now you mention it I think I recall seeing that, I suspect I thought that Phoca Download would be able to do the upload using FTP as FTP has been enabled. Given that Phoca has access to FTP to perform the download might it be possible to enable uploads as well in a future release?

Hi, Phoca Download does not have access to FTP, it uses Joomla! methods to work with files and folders (JFile and JFolder) and depends on your settings if Joomla! will use FTP or script method. To write something behind the public_html - such feature cannot be added to some script (because of security reasons and because servers can restrict such feature, etc. ...)
