Need simple plugin

Okay, so here goes. Here: books.brethrenarchives.com/images/land/8a/001.jpg is an image on my site. I would like it to be accessible via either a scaled down image or a text link. When either the image or the text is clicked I want it to pop up in an overlay.

Here is the important part. Because of the image size I need to have a zoom and pan ability. Any thoughts?

Hi, if you will use Phoca Gallery, you can use e.g. Highslide JS so the images will be displayed as thumbnail, while clicking on it as large thumbnail which can be resized to full image (the image should not be cropped - can be set in Options)

Thank you very kindly Jan for the reply. That won't quite get the task done. Looks like I'm going to have to purchase one of those where the mouse pointer turns into a magnifying glass that pops up a little window.
