Link to Outside Source

Maybe I missed this, but I need to know about outside linking. Due to using a third-party company for hosting we are charged for memory use so we store many larger document in a local FTP server and just link to those documents. Is it possible to simply link to those larger, separately hosted documents, so the smaller documents and larger one stay grouped together?
