I have re installed phoca gallery and the plug ins inclusing slideshow and the button. It doesnt automatically create categories and I cant create them manually either = error. trying to put a slide show on each article, thanks. All the latest versions used.

Which Phoca Gallery Component version?
Which Phoca Gallery Plugin, Button Plugin an Slideshow Plugin version?

Which error when exactly. (Perhaps take a screenshot)
Describe a little bit more what you have already tried out.

Okay, open up phoca gallery control panel. I try to multiple add images and I get a message saying " must choose category " so I click the gallery tab and try and create a new category and/or parent category , the the error message appears " error saving phoca gallery categories "
There are no categories in the drop down list to choose from. Sorry I have screen shots but dont know how to attach them here?

Ok, check e.g. with phpMyAdmin if all tables were created during installation process.
Perhaps jos_phocagallery_categories is missing.
