How to hide first-level categories from "List of Categories"

Thank you for your great extensions!

I'm trying to introduce your extension "Phoca Documentation version 2.0.0" to my Joomla! 1.6.5.
After I installed the Phoca Documentation, I clicked the Option button on the "Phoca Documentation Control Panel", and selected my categories to show from "Display Categories" list.

After I made a menu of "List of Categories" and published it, I clicked the menu.
But I can't see any categories listed, though the "Categories View Description" and the Most Viewed Documents are shown.

After repeated trial and error, I noticed that if I include a "first-level category" (whose parent category is menu root) into my selection of the "Display Categories" list, Phoca Documentation shows it, but if I don't include any first-level categories, it doesn't show any categories.

I want to show some second-level categories when my visitor clicks the menu of "List of Categories".
I'm afraid that I might be setting it up incorrectly.
Please let me know how to do. I also appreciate any hints.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, yes it works this way, if you will not display any parent category, then the subcategories will be not displayed too, this is because parent categories has special design effects and the box with subcategories must have some main category.

Thank you for your quick replay, Jan!

I'm happy to know that.
Then, I will move the second-level category beneath the root :)

Thank you again!
