Hello!

I installed "Phoca Download" for a customer of mine and I have problems creating the right permission settings for users, categories and files.
My customer is going to start an academy for gardening. There are 4 different modules and every modules do have various courses.

Example:
-Module 1
-- Course 1
-- Course 2
-- Course 3
etc.

-Module 2
-- Course 1
-- Course 2
-- Course 3
etc.

There are learning documentations for every course. So, when a client is going to book one course (example: Module 1 - Course 1), he/she should only see and only can download the documentation for "Module 1 - Course 1". All other documents should be invisable and not downloadable for him/her. It is also possible that a customer is booking "Module 1 - Course 1" and "Module 2 - Course 3". It would be very helpfull if there is someting like a Matrix where I can check the corresponding courses of the client. My first thought was the setting (usergroup) of the client.

After hours of disappointment, I signed up to this forum. I'm not able to create the right settings/permissions. What would be the right settings for the user (usergroups), categories, files,... the get the right output!?

Hi, in Phoca Download you can set permissions for categories - it means, a category can be displayed for specific user, or specific user groups.

Sorry to bring up that old posting but I have to rebuild the download area of my customer and I'm still having big troubles to create the right user groups, access level and whatever is needed to configure phoca download.

In Joomla there are usergroups and access levels. Phoca Download is talking of access level for categories and not from usergroups.
So, it should be simple but it isn't.

1.) I created different usergroups (see first posting)
-Module A
-- Course 1
-- Course 2
-- Course 3
etc.

-Module B
-- Course 1
-- Course 2
-- Course 3
etc.

2.) I've created access levels for each usergroup because Phoca Download categories is talking about "access level" and not "usergroups"
access level "Module A": access is granted for the usergroups "admins, superuser, registered, module A"
access level "Module A - Course 1": access is granted for the usergroups "admins, superuser, registered, module A, module A - course 1"
and so on...

3.) I've created a new user "John". John is within the usergroups "registered, module A and subgroup course 2"

4.) Changing to Phoca Download! I created a new category "module A". ACCESS LEVEL for this category is "Module A"
Now I created the subcategories of "Module A" namely "Course 1" and "Course 2". ACCESS LEVEL for category "Module A - Course 1" is "Module A - Course 1" (Point 2) and the same for "Module A - Course 2" with the right access level.

5.) Now when I'm logging in as "John", I only should see the main category "'Module A" and the subcategory "Course 2", right (Point 3)? NO, I'm seening the main category "Module A" and BOTH subcategories!!!

What I'm doing wrong here??

Hi:

Access levels - user groups - categories are working together

User group (created in your Joomla!) can have access rights to a category.

Means, there is category "A" - in edit of the category - you can set that such category can access only group "B" and this means, the files in the category "A" can be accessed only by all users which are in group "B"... in Phoca Download you can specify each user too - so you can extend the group access level to user access level, example:

There is a category "A" - in edit of the category, you can set that such category can access only group "registered" and there only specific user "C" (Access Level: Registered, Access: C).
