upload/updating files in frontend

May be, i'm sorry about this question, but i need a little bit of help:
Everything works, but whats the problem with updating existing files? The first file upload works. The second update generate the message, "file already exist". After deleting this file by FTP, the system say "missing file ---". Sorry, but how can i allow my users, to updating existing files? All needed rights on the server for registered users are set.
