Corrupted downloads suddenly, Joomla 2.5

Hello Jan,
Suddenly my Joomla 2.5.19 site started corrupting download files. I have direct download DISABLED and file view ENABLED and all my files are suddenly not playing in Windows Media player, Real Player, Quicktime etc.. once download.
The files which are downloaded are MIDI files and I test every file before uploading. I know that Phoca Download doesn't touch the files once they are uploaded so what could be going wrong? I have meticulously checked and disabled every extension/module/plugin I have installed since I started having the issue and that doesn't seem to help. I have noticed however that the issue started around the time of the latest Joomla update, 2.5.19. I don't know if that is an issue because obviously I can not rollback Joomla updates.
The mystery deepens further as when I ENABLE direct link and DISABLE file view, everything works fine. So something is going wrong in file view that is corrupting the downloads.
It's a definite mystery for sure and I had to run a script to update 4500 rows in my database which was frustrating.
Phoca Download is the best extension on JED and hopefully, this issue will be fixed.
