Can not create new images folder

After update from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 I have some problems.
I am using Phoca Gallery 3.2.7 now
All prevoious folder upto 2013 are still present an working (partly)
Now in media manager I am creating a new images folder 2014, but I get a faildescription:
JFolder::create: Could not create directory Path: /home/oudevoer/public_html/images/phocagallery/2014
I have created the menu item 2014 and the category : foto's of 2014.

Hi, try to check the permissions and ownership of the folders (images, phocgallery) if you are able to access them and create subfolder there

Thank you for your answer.
I searched Phoca Gallery and found under options that I could change permissions.
I changed some of them, but had no idea of what I was doing or that it helped.
While looking ther I found in Phoca Gallery options under main that Enable Thumbnails Generation was in No mode.
I set it to Yes mode and saved and closed the page. Suddenly the screen showed the creation of thumbnails.
And after that the website showed the normal photos instead of an empty square (photo).
In this moment everything seems to work good.
