How to set up New Group and ACL for Phoca Download Access

Post by Mr_Anonymous »

I dont know what I am missing here and I cant seem to get the new user group and ACL access set-up right for Phoca Download. I want to create a new group and only want phoca download access to the users in this group. When I set it up, I am still not able to see the phoca files although I am on the right group. Its visible if I change the phoca download category to public. I am missing something in my set-up. Can you tell me what I am missing here plz... these are the steps I've done:

1) Created a New User Group 'Downloaders'.

2) Created Viewing Access Levels 'Downloaders' like this

3) Added User to the 'Downloaders' User group

4) Set Phoca Category Access to 'Downloaders' Group.

Now, when I go to the front-end, I dont see anything. Arent I supposed to see the files since I am now added to the downloaders group? What have I got wrong in the settings above or Am I missing something?

I am using Joomla 3.3 and Phoca Download 3.0.6

Hi, hmm, did you try to log off and log in after you have done the changes.

I am testing the same as you:

- user is a part of group: downloaders
- and is a part of group: super user or registered (to access the site, he/she needs to be a part of e.g. registered)

Tested with super user or other user - tested when the group is under public or under super user - always the same.

The only idea is, when I have changed something in rights, nothing changed until I have been logged off and the on again. - did you try to log off and log in?

Oh thats right. Thank you so much Jan. You are right. After being added to the special group, I need to log out and log back in again to be able to download. I didint realise that at all. But its a shame it does that though. Isint it possible to make phoca download check the permission each time the user visits the page instead of only applying the permissions after logging out and logging in? This is because, I have added the Payplans membership component which adds user to the downloaders group after paid subscription. I want to give access to the download category after the payment but it beats the ux experience when I have to ask the user to log out and login again. Is there any way to change this behaviour Jan?

Hi,

the loggin and logout is a Joomla! feature - and it is not about that user needs to login and logout but that if you change the rights, to test it you need to loagout and login to see the right working of it. This does not influence users. User does not have to logout and login as no changes were done. This is only the case that you change the permission of some logged user and in his/her session there still the old group.

Hi Jan, that is what I was referring to. With the Paid Membership component, it adds the user to the group after subscription payment but the user still cannot access phoca download category since the process of adding the user to the special group happened in the same session. So for those users, isint there no other option but to ask them to logout and login?

Aha, now I understand, hmmm, this is really weird, no idea how to solve this, maybe after subscription, the user will be logged off automatically and he must login again (with explanation that this is because new rights). It is not optimal but no idea how to solve it other way
