Post by Svempa »

Hi, I really like this gallery and would like to use it if possible. Tried installing 1.4.6 on my Joomla! 1.5 stable site http://www.nodingegolf.se, everything seemed OK but after creating a couple of categories I could not make a gallery. I got a message that no files existed, and in red to JFolder errors stating that the path defined (images/phocagallery) was not to a folder. It does exist however, and IS to a folder. I then uninstalled (after a number of futile tries to rectify the situation) guessing something was wrong with the new release. Installed 1.3.5 instead, but got the same type of error already hen trying to create a category.

Thought things over, then tried installing 1.4.6 again on another Joomla 1.5 stable site that I have (http://www.bankel.se). Worked fine directly, anyay I could create a gallery and see folders and files in the images/phocagallery folder. Both sites are at the Surftown webhotel site, only difference seems to be that the successful installation has PHP 4.4.7 while the other has PHP 5.2.2.

Any suggestions?

Hm, it's getting worse. Now, after installing and uninstalling various versions of Phoca Gallery this same error is showing everywhere in my Joomla! backend. PHP sends messages all the time that various paths are not to folders, very annoying.

Evidently this error

Post by Svempa »

Evidently this error message originates in /libraries/joomla/filesystem/folder.php and indicates that my entire file system may be compromised in some way. Or rather the "map" of it that Joomla! uses. Anybody know if it is possible to reinitialize this without reinstalling Joomla?

After more tests it seems to be only paths that go through the "images" folder that are compromised. Perhaps Phoca Gallery in some way changes the root path to the "images" folder, and this is not reversed when uninstalling the component?

Post by Svempa »

I have come to the conclusion that the error probably is not dependent on either Phoca or the PHP level. Most things work OK again, what remains that I so far has not been able to understand is wrong links to images in Joomla!:s Media Manager and the editor I use (FCKeditor). I get links like this:

http://www.nodingegolf.se/images///hsph ... se/images/ Gronasens-topbild.jpg ,when trying to access my images. Existing articles with images show OK, however.

Obviously two absolute paths have been concatenated in some way, it is interesting that Media Manager has correct links to the top level directories in /images, but not to the images themselves in the /images directory.

Possibly some bug in Joomla, probably provoked to appear by installing new components. Phoca could have had some effect, the problems started right after installing Phoca, but I now suspect JoomlaXplorer more.

Phoca could have

Phoca could have had some effect

Phoca Gallery doesn't change any settings in Joomla and any other files in Joomla! or on your server.

Only what Phoca Gallery do, is:

- creating a folder called images/phocagallery/
- creating two tables in database...
- files of Phoca Gallery are copied by Joomla! installator into a server

Nothing more.

Let me first say that I (and many, many others, I am sure) am extremely grateful for the good work you and other extension developers do. The basic Joomla! site is very nice, but a little bland in taste. What the extensions provide is corresponding to the spice we put in our food to make it really appetizing.

So the only thing I want is for the extensions I want to use to work perfectly! I feel certain we have this in common...

Now I have seen that you have been active in this thread:
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=199&t=245395
discussing "automatic adding of URL". It seems to me that this problem is very similar to my own.

Any comments on that?

This is a problem only with Javascript which I hacked...(I added the topic because I want to eliminate hacks... hacked means complicated solution created...)

But I think I added other topic which is similar to your problem:

http://localhost/joomla/http://localhost/joomla.... url creation...

but I cannot find it in Joomla forum ....
I am trying to find it...

Thanks for your time!

Well, this might make you happy :

1) I downloaded and installed a fantastic package called JoomlaPC which created a complete webserver environment (including PHP 5.2.3, MySql and Apache) and a Joomla! 1.5 stable website on my PC. Installed the Phoca Gallery as my first extension with no problems at all, still with sthe standard template, "uploaded" a number of pictures, created a couple of categories and a gallery. Also created a menu item pointing at the gallery.

Very smooth, perfect result. Now why could I not achieve the same perfection on my nodingegolf.se website? OK, it has safe mode = on and PHP 5.2.2 but that should not make a difference. Also I did not install the JCKedit or the Lavinya template, cannot see that could have caused the error.

Will install JoomlaXplorer 1.6 next to see if that breaks my site the same way. By the ay, I am using the exact same downloads for my extension installs that I used previously.
