Size of Thumbs and Configuring

Hi,
i have insert a picture in the article. But how can i setup the height and width for the thumb? I see a white space between the border and the picture, this is also not fine
And the last question, how can i configure the standards of the plugin?
I hope, the questions are not too easy.
