Download issues

Hi Phocadownload/Jan,

I have a few issues with downloading.

I have a whole bunch of categories and files at the moment.

I have 1 main categorie for subscribers which are paid subscriptions, you cannot access these without logging in.
I have 1 main categorie for archived files. These are open for the public. You don't need to log in here.

Now, the categorie for subscribers is working fine, you need to login. But, when you click on Preview, or in my case View, you get a second windows and you can view the PDF file. Here you can copy the link and sent it to who ever you want and they can see the file, which is not what I want.

The categorie for archived files is set access to public. The subcategories is set access to public. Even the files have Access set to public and the "Display Inaccessible File" is set to No. Yet you cannot download the file and you need to login first.

Clearly this is not what I want. I want the archive categories and sub categories to be view-able and downloadable to the public.

The subscribers have a maximum download set to 3 per file. It works fine for the Download button and for the filename. But, whenever you view this PDF you can still save the PDF. Not really what I want.

How can I fix all of these settings?

If you need a temp super admin login etc, let me know. 8)

Best regards,

Power Joe

Hi, first, which version of Phoca Download you are using?

There is a preview/play function and download function - so files which should be previewed and played do have another folder than files which should be downloaded.

This means, you can set some preview files in public folder (e.g. pdf with only table of contents) and the downloadable file which will include all the content behind the public_html folder on your server, so such cannot be accessed directly

Items in category - the category needs to be public and there can be different files - public or protected - so then the category will be displayed and users will be able to download public files, when they want to download private files, they will be redirected to login page.

Thanks Christine.

@Jan, thanks for your quick answer. I am currently using the newest Phocadownload. I've set all the rights, access etc to public yet I am not able to download it as a normal visitor..

Hmm, do you use cache?

As default, all files can be downloaded by public, so try to recheck all the places where access rights can be set:

- menu link options
- edit of category
- edit of files
(be aware, there are two parameters: access rights and access)

Currently I use Cloudflare as CDN and JotCache for the caching part. I can exclude certain areas within the JoTcache.

I have rechecked as you requested and everything is set to public. from menu item to category to file.
I will try to exclude the areas in the cache but this seems very unlikely...

As I mentioned above, doesn't have anything to do with the caching...

Hi, I really cannot say what can be wrong there, as default, all is set to public and all can be downloaded by public, like here:

https://www.phoca.cz/download

So, if this is not cache problem, somehwere in database), there must be set something regarding rights.

Only to test, try to change the parameter in Options:
Access Level - Registered Users - https://www.phoca.cz/documents/17-phoca- ... e-joomla-3

I tried changing the access levels but doesn't make a difference for public..

See screenshot of my General settings: http://prntscr.com/921opm
As you can see, cache is off..

I'm out of clues..
