Hey there,

using:
Joomla 2.5
Phoca Maps Comp 2.0.6
Phoca Maps Plugin 2.0.5
I can't see any input field for adding the Google Maps API Key :(.

I browsed and scanned through a few topics, but somehow couldn't found anything useful for this particular problem.

Hopefully I'm just blind. Thanks for any reply!

I'm sorry for not understanding; does that mean:
- I should use "Phoca Maps for Joomla 3" for my Joomla 2.5 Version?
- I have to update Joomla, because only the Phoca Maps Version for J3 has this input field?

Hi,

in principle Yes (2nd line). Because each Core update will have changes in Codes etc. etc.
But you should update Joomla 3, not only for Phoca Map reason as there are also other functions, releases and much more between J 2.5 and J 3. Check also PHP versions before updating from J 2.5 to J 3 (at least: 5.6 > PHP 7)

Haha thanks. I'm sure about the reasons for updating software in general, but at the current moment an update of this clients project is not possible; that's why I was hoping for a solution for J2.5. (I'm btw a fan of Phoca Maps and also enjoy using it for all our J3.x version sites)

So in conclusion: using Phoca Maps in a NEW Joomla 2.5 project is not working, since Google wants that api key which we can't provide in this version?

Hi, unfortunately for now, there are so many changes:

Picasa closed
Google Maps - new API key needed
YouTube - changes when displaying video

So it is really difficult to see obsolete versions, the only one way for now is to customize them when looking new version code as the time for making changes for obsolete version is very limited.

I don't say, that I will not take a look at version which works for Joomla! 2.5 but now when we have problems with latest version as many users get problems when setting API key, we need to finish changes for latest versions first (include all changes and all components which use e.g. Google Maps, Picasa/Google+/Google Photos, YouTube, etc.) which is not easy as there are no new functions for some old which used to work

That is no problem; it is just good to know, because I was first googling for a while looking for a hint wether Maps is currently supported with the J2.5 version.

Ok, but for information, in Joomla! 2.5, Phoca Maps uses obsolete API and there no API key is needed, so the map should be displayed without any error message

What about the phoca maps, using obsolete APis like above version? Will they work from June 11?
Google says: "Beginning June 11, you’ll need a valid API key and a Google Cloud Platform billing account to access our core products."

sorry, but about "the obsolete APIs" belongs to an old thread.

Using API key, see link b) is not new, but unfortunately the information regarding "billing account to access ......."
