Hi

I am new to Phoca download.
I have created a number of file folders on my server which I can make available for download.
My question is how do I make a new file which I add to these folders available for download - I can't see anyway to select an individual file within a folder and add it to my filelist.

Hi, there are two ways how to add the files:

Individually - just go to administration - files - new - and select the filename there
or Multiple Add - go to administration - files - multiple add - select the folder or file and click on save - all the file/folder structure will be transformed to categories/file items in Phoca Download.

I too am new to Joomla! and Phoca. Evaluating both. Is it possible to have file and folder additions in such cases as OP posits propagate automatically (preferred) or on a scheduled (less preferred -potentially another level of complexity) basis?

What I would like to do is have a directory on the same server but not 'under' Joomla!. For example: /files_for_you

I want to tell the download component one time that it needs to look in /files_for_you for files users can download.

After that, anytime I add, remove, change files or directories in that folder, the component will make them available on line without additional intervention by me through Joomla! and/or the component controls. The assumption is that re-scan of folder happens either; on change, on access, or on schedule.

This would be a condition I select when setting up component. I would of course still like to be able to take selected files 'offline' or restrict from ordinary user access via component should the need arise.

Hi, see the options of the Phoca Download, in expert settings, you can set own specific folder path (e.g. add the files behind public_html):

I guess the component does not 'rescan' the "Absolute Path" automatically then. Every time, after I have added folders and or files after the "Absolute Path" I will then have to take some actions in the component admin section to make the new content visible on web.

I also note that any MP3 content must be inside public_html if component is to be able to play it. Docs indicate it will be accessible to all. I was looking for a way for authenticated users only to be able to play content from site directly. I did not want to force them to download and then play.

Hi, no, there is no scanning of files on the server.

Yes, you can give the file for download whe it is behind the public_html but it cannot be played or previewed in browser (even your user is logged it or not) when it is behind the public_html. These are just rules set on the server (important security rules).
