how to restrict buyers to buy more than whats in the stock

hi i have noticed that during testing, i was able to place product quantity orders more than what is the available in the stock and was able to add it up to the cart. is there a way were the quantity can be restricted to only match whats available as stock?

yeah that's the setting i have, i have noticed now that it sorts of allows me to added it to the cart and then the notifies me not enough quantity, i was thinking would allow me to add to cart, but this is cool already, at least it doesnt allow the purchase of more than the quantity
