Idea - New Products Category

Post by dmlwebal »

Hi Jan

This is currently beyond my capabilities (maybe a few more months) but suggestion:

Is it feasible to request a Joomla Menu Category for Phoca Cart New Products? So, it shows all items in all categories that are 'New' and this could be controlled by Products field 'Updated' or 'Published' with option for x number of days (similar to the automated tag applied to new products)

Regards

Hi,

I display new items with standard items view, where the ordering is set e.g. by update date, see demo:

https://www.phoca.cz/jtd/

The items are ordered by update date set in product.

The advantage is, user can see new products/items but he/she can then change the ordering by his/her needs. And if you use e.g. NEW label then you will have marked all new items as NEW for example.

Hi Jan

Yes, I agree, this is the same method that I currently use also. But, I had a customer (fishing tackle store) request the facility of a specific NEW category as many competitors use this.
Their market suppliers release new products 2 to 3 times per year, so I asked on my customer's behalf.

Thank you for the work on 3.5.5 beta.

Happy New Year

One another idea:

Bcause making another menu link is always complicated (not the development itself but when there is another menu link, there is another format of URL and different URLs can be in conflict, etc.), what about using a module for this purpose?

Interesting, I was not aware of the problems potentially inherent with the Joomla menu link types.

So, yes, agreed, a module would work fine. I shall look at this option instead.

Thanks again Jan.
