I have found the if I delete any thumbnail files when I select "galleries" from Phocagallery component menu in Joomla backend the thumbnail files are automatically recreated: probably there is an automatic check to control if thumbnail files exist. Anyway these feature is not good when you have a lot of galleries with hundreds of pics. In this case the thumbnail file check takes a lot of time (even if thumbnail files are all present)... sometime I have the impression the script hangs. I think it would be better to have a separate buttor to check and recreate thumbnails.

I am for something similar, a button to recreate thumbnails, suppose my original thumbnail size were 100 now I change it to 200, I couldn't find a way to recreate thumbnails at new size.

You can stop the automatically thumbnail creation in Global Configuration
OR you can enable the Pagination thumbnail creation... Only images which are listed (e.g. 20) will be checked ... this function was made for saving RAM and CPU in backend... In frontend there is no checking the thumbnail, so there is no problem with RAM and CPU

If your thumbnails are 100 and you want to have it with 200, just change the thumbnails size in Global Configuration, delete the thumbnails on your server and Phoca Gallery will create new with 200 ... Don't forget to change it in Parameters component in Menu link too (to view the right size in the frontend)

Thanks, that is what I did, however I was thinking of an option that it will recreate the thumbnails rather than I manually deleting the thumbnails to be recreated, but this works too, thanks for Phoca Gallery.
