Category list layout

Is it possible to set category list layout as it is in Category Layout.
I dont want to have that small picture and than name of all categories of that gallery. I want to have bigger thumbnail just with gallery name.
Then this would be same as viewing if I had only one parent category and several one level categories. Than I would see all categories together.
But when I have 1 parent, then 3 categories and several categores inside that 3 categories, I see only 3 thumbnails when I choose to see Category Layout od parent category.
I hope you understan what I need.

Is it possible to set category list layout as it is in Category Layout You can create a main category which will represent the categories list and then subcategories in this category which will represent categories...

Yes you right, you will see only 'direct' subcategories (because of tree)...

You can set the medium images for categories view too, see parameters...
