Hi, sorry for the delay in my answer. Yes I'm using 1.8.2. I can see that under a category details, you can assign rights to a user. Rights are the following:
Access User rights
Upload and Add User Rights:
Delete and Publish User Rights:
I have selected the users that will have those rights in every right field.
in my configuration these users can:
Upload images
Unpublish images
Delete images
However, I cannot see how any of these users could perform the following actions from the front end:
Create, edit, publish, unpublish categories
Edit images (Access to the media manager)
is this possible?
thanks

no, they don't have any access to media manager... if they have rights to:
upload and add - upload form will be displayed for them in category
delete - delete icon will be displayed for them in category
publish/unpuplish - p or u icons will be displayed
there is no edit

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your prompt reply. It will be great to have those features. Most users (like me) that are not programmers but artists find difficulties interacting with the joomla back end. It would be nice to be able to administrate the component completely from the front end. Would this be possible? If you have a way to implement it please consider it, and I will be willing to cover the expenses. This is the best gallery component I 've came across with. I think the media manager is a great concept that I haven't seen on any other gallery component. Thanks

Would this be possible? No, because in frontend there is not the same framework as for backend ... and because of security some functions are disabled in frontend ...
