Displaying a gallery image in an Article

Hi I am new to Joomla but have been installing other CMSs for years. I installed Phoca Gallery with no problems and was able to create categories and upload images. I also created a gallery menu Item without problems.

I am have problems with trying to display an image from the gallery in an article. With the { and } brackets I tried both

phocagallery view=categories

and

phocagallery view=category|categoryid=2|imageid=1|detail=1|displayname=1|
displaydetail=1|displaydownload=1|float=right

and all I get in the article when I view it on the website are the same strings with the { and } around them. What am I missing? Do I need to enable something in Global COnfiguration of the website or component to make this work or have I screwed up some where else?

Do you have plugin installed? is it enabled?

and did you type the ' {' and ' }'? On this website, they're all images!
